i saw cassandra clare’s huge post and i’m sad about it :/ i know she’s not perfect but guys she made some rlly good points. god i wish ppl would stop only seeing things as black and white bc that’s not how the world works. she has flaws, has made mistakes, hasn’t apologized for some of them, but we gotta see the other side as well. she
made good points, and no one should be treated so horribly. idk if i’m explaining this right bc i can see both sides and want to make that clear. and yes criticism is good but also this fandom is exhausting now :( let’s try to be mature and think critically and individually about our own actions as well as others?

  • Shadowhunters panel @ComiCon! :D

    Hi, there!

I floated the idea of a Shadowhunters/TMI centered panel as a possible panel for Phoenix ComiCon 2017, and it’s been accepted! :D I’m looking for people who live in or around Phoenix, AZ, USA, who like Shadowhunters/TMI, and would like to be a panelist(s) on the panel. If you do, IM me about it and we’ll talk.

Edit: (Added) I’m also looking for any suggestions anyone might have on what they think I should present at the panel. It’s a fan panel discussion of SH/TMI, and I’d like to know what people would like to see at such a panel, like vids or pictures/hear us talk about as topics/talk about in the audience if they went to such a panel? The answers to these questions will really help me figure out where/what to focus on while putting the panel together. So if you have an idea for me or answer to those questions, please let me know. Your input is wanted! :D

Things I’m looking as info for the panel are interviews with the cast, the SH writers and crew, and CC, guides to the characters as intros, vids that you’d recommend every fan watch, etc. if you know of any of these and could pass them along I’d be so grateful, and be sure to credit you at the end of the panel.

I’m so excited, this is the first ever SH/TMI centered panel at Phoenix ComiCon! Our show is going up in the world, first the GLADD Award, Malec as #2 favorite couple again, the new book coming out and S2B and this! I want to do it justice. :) Signal boast this to anyone you think might be interested or IM me with any questions or ideas! Thanks so much.

  • can you explain magnus reaction to when alec took his arm i rally couldn't read it if he was mad or what

    matt-daddario-deactivated201803:

I’ve been waiting to talk about this for a long time. Mutuals and followers feel free to disagree or chime in if you’d like to add anything. During season 1 I noticed the way Magnus reacted when people in general touched him, he didn’t like it. It was blatant and it was obvious, when Jace or Dot touched him he didn’t like it one bit, he looked at the touch with the utmost distaste. One could argue this is Magnus just being sassy. But I also noticed how it’s the other way around too. Magnus doesn’t touch people often, he hardly ever offers a sympathetic touch, usually it’s in absolutely major cases. But in the scene where he shushs Alec up he doesn’t touch him, when Alec kisses Magnus he’s hands remain by his sides, when Ragnor dies Magnus hands hover over him not fully touching him.

I believe that Magnus has a complex issue with touch; people touching him and him touching others. When he needs Alec’s strength he asks’ permissions, and that’s absolutely key. It makes me wonder whether Magnus feels like he doesn’t deserve to be touched or that he doesn’t have the permission to touch other, it makes me wonder what must have happened to him for him to feel this way, to feel so….remote. It also makes me wonder if Magnus is touch starved.

In light with Alec touching Magnus’ arm, I think it shocked Magnus to begin with. For two reasons, one because of his issue with being touched even though it’s alexander I think that issue is still present. And secondly because in that very same day Magnus actually went ahead to touch Alec in the institute and he was brushed away and for someone who’s had problems with this before, for Magnus to go ahead and touch Alec to offer him compassion and for it to be brushed aside? that hurt, and you could see it on Magnus’ face. So when Alec touched Magnus’ arm, I think he was shocked but he was also pleased, that maybe he’s become comfortable with Alec, that he’s trusting him with this. It might be a small gesture but for Magnus it seems like a large one, only because of the people he’s allowed to touch him previously who’ve just broken him and hurt him but he’s learning to trust again.

I wasnt gonna let it bother me, i was just gonna ignore it as a thing, but literally its getting ridicolous…the backwards flips they’ve had to do to retconn a major plot point of season 1! From the people in charge before carefully avoiding to make alec refer to jace as his brother since hes in love with him, to now them throwing around that word like no tomorrow! To erase that part of the gay character they dont like!!! But they care about a fair portrayal dont they?? Like seriously how many times has he already said it oh my freaking god if you dont want to aknowledge those feelings dont at least do him this great disservice ffs

As a book reader (I don’t know if you are as well) I can tell you Alec was never in love with Jace. He was in love with the idea of love. Loving Jace was a safe place (he was his parabatai and being in love with him was forbidden, right? That made things so much easier). Alec suppressed his feelings and the thought that he could never have /that/, he could never have Jace, made him calm. Yes, he knew he was gay but he didn’t want to let the world know.
That was until Magnus. Meeting him threw Alec to a emotional wreck, to an attraction he had never felt before. Even Matt said it, Alec didn’t know what was love until he met his warlock.

So yes, Jace IS Alec’s brother. His parabatai, his best friend. He doesn’t have a childish crush anymore. He realized he never had. And that’s a major plot of Alec’s journey: he’s allowed to love, it doesn’t have to be forbidden for him.

…. yes i have read the books and in no universe i will consider canon the ‘’explanation’’ and the way cc dealt with alec’s sexuality and his feelings for jace…the thing is, first she made him have feelings for jace to show that he was gay, then when it became inconvenient to the plot, instead of developing it in a respectful way to alec’s established feelings she retconned it as if they were never there, he was just ‘confused’ , it was ‘’convenient’’ for him (which he never said, jace did- having him ‘’agree’’ makes no sense)… when how was being in love with the one person he’s forbidden to love ‘’’easy’’’, how did it make him ‘’’calm’’’, when it is the one aspect that cemented his self-hatred and disgust of himself the most ??? the fact that he loved someone he was supposed to see as a brother but instead had always seen as something more??? that was not a ‘’childish crush’’ but has in fact been going on for almost ten years and you think in all this time he couldn’t tell what he was feeling??? this is just feeding in the stereotype that gay people are just confused about what they feel…what happened with magnus is that that was the first time he could experience love and be reciprocated, when his love could finally be out in the open and he could externalize it, yet that doesn’t mean any other feeling before wasn’t real. yet both in the books and the show this very fact hasn’t been dealt with properly –the show could have fixed it, they could have showed how alec chose to accept his feelings and the impossibility of it and move on, because one can’t help who they love but they can choose to let go and experience new and hopefully better things?? this respectful approach still hasn’t been given to alec, instead everyone and their mother continue to keep him from having this emotional development, choosing to erase his past in favor of his future and that’s what bothers me

I think you’re analysing it to much. The simple, and in fact only, answer is that Alec was never in love with Jace. He was in love with the idea of being in love. He didn’t know what love meant and misread his parabatai/brother/best friend relationship with Jace as something more (romantic) cause he didn’t know what that really was. The show runners aren’t ignoring it, they’re just not hung up on what Alec thought he felt. They’re letting him explore what true love is and he deserves that.

………….did you even read what i said?? do you really think for almost ten years alec hasn’t been able to tell what kind of feelings he had for jace??? like others have pointed out he DOES have a brother and knows what brotherly love is, so if he spent all that time crucifing himself over having this kind of feelings it’s because they were there??? you keep bringing up stuff like “true love” that he only ever experienced with magnus i guess you’re mixing stuff up, with magnus he’s experiencing and going to experience BEING IN A RELATIONSHIP for the first time where love is reciprocated between the parts, but where does this imply that he was “never in love with jace”???? or that “‘he didn’t know what love meant”’???? are you serious??? his entire character is driven by the love he has for the people he cares about and jace is literally the person he loves the most so stop treating alec like an idiot that can’t tell what he’s feeling, like do you say that simon isn’t in love with clary then??? he “doesn’t know what love means” either but i don’t see anyone erasing those kind of feelings he has for his best friend….literally all it comes down to here is //respect//. give alec’s ability to tell his feelings apart and the right he has to have them not be diminished or erased but DEVELOPED the respect he deserves.

when how was being in love with the one person he’s forbidden to love ‘’’easy’’’, how did it make him ‘’’calm’’’, when it is the one aspect that cemented his self-hatred and disgust of himself the most ?

You’ve summed up into words what I’ve felt re: Jalec and Alec’s POV on it and how it’s anything but convenient, for months but couldn’t figure out how to say. Thank you very much. :)

I think the writers are wrong on how they’re writing this point, but also that Alec might be making a conscious choice to call Jace his brother, what with the Clave and Jocelyn around, to show he’s on Jace’s side, and because of his budding relationship with Magnus that he doesn’t want to mess up. I’m headcanoning that Alec is censoring himself that way on purpose, instead of the writers not giving us that storyline, so we can write fic where Magnus or Izzy tells him he doesn’t have to do that, his feeling are his feelings and okay and valid, or he and Jace finally have a real conversation about them, or Alec loses the shame and accepts the love he feels for Jace as okay for himself. :D

If we have to do the Clace (not)incest storyline, we deserve the Jalec one as well. It’d make a great parallel. #Alec Lightwood does not think think of Jace as a brother 2k17

Chiune Sugihara. This man saved 6000 Jews. He was a Japanese diplomat in Lithuania. When the Nazis began rounding up Jews, Sugihara risked his life to start issuing unlawful travel visas to Jews. He hand-wrote them 18 hrs a day. The day his consulate closed and he had to evacuate, witnesses claim he was STILL writing visas and throwing from the train as he pulled away. He saved 6000 lives. The world didn’t know what he’d done until Israel honored him in 1985, the year before he died.

Why can’t we have a movie about him?

He was often called “Sempo”, an alternative reading of the characters of his first name, as that was easier for Westerners to pronounce.

His wife, Yukiko, was also a part of this; she is often credited with suggesting the plan. The Sugihara family was held in a Soviet POW camp for 18 months until the end of the war; within a year of returning home, Sugihara was asked to resign - officially due to downsizing, but most likely because the government disagreed with his actions.

He didn’t simply grant visas - he granted visas against direct orders, after attempting three times to receive permission from the Japanese Foreign Ministry and being turned down each time. He did not “misread” orders; he was in direct violation of them, with the encouragement and support of his wife.

He was honoured as Righteous Among the Nations in 1985, a year before he died in Kamakura; he and his descendants have also been granted permanent Israeli citizenship. He was also posthumously awarded the Life Saving Cross of Lithuania (1993); Commander’s Cross Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland (1996); and the Commander’s Cross with Star of the Order of Polonia Restituta (2007). Though not canonized, some Eastern Orthodox Christians recognize him as a saint.

Sugihara was born in Gifu on the first day of 1900, January 1. He achieved top marks in his schooling; his father wanted him to become a physician, but Sugihara wished to pursue learning English. He deliberately failed the exam by writing only his name and then entered Waseda, where he majored in English. He joined the Foreign Ministry after graduation and worked in the Manchurian Foreign Office in Harbin (where he learned Russian and German; he also converted to the Eastern Orthodox Church during this time). He resigned his post in protest over how the Japanese government treated the local Chinese citizens. He eventually married Yukiko Kikuchi, who would suggest and encourage his acts in Lithuania; they had four sons together. Chiune Sugihara passed away July 31, 1986, at the age of 86. Until her own passing in 2008, Yukiko continued as an ambassador of his legacy.

It is estimated that the Sugiharas saved between 6,000-10,000 Lithuanian and Polish Jewish people.

It’s a tragedy that the Sugiharas aren’t household names. They are among the greatest heroes of WWII. Is it because they were from an Axis Power? Is it because they aren’t European? I don’t know. But I’ve decided to always reblog them when they come across my dash. If I had the money, I would finance a movie about them.

    He told an interviewer:

You want to know about my motivation, don’t you? Well. It is the kind of sentiments anyone would have when he actually sees refugees face to face, begging with tears in their eyes. He just cannot help but sympathize with them. Among the refugees were the elderly and women. They were so desperate that they went so far as to kiss my shoes, Yes, I actually witnessed such scenes with my own eyes. Also, I felt at that time, that the Japanese government did not have any uniform opinion in Tokyo. Some Japanese military leaders were just scared because of the pressure from the Nazis; while other officials in the Home Ministry were simply ambivalent.

People in Tokyo were not united. I felt it silly to deal with them. So, I made up my mind not to wait for their reply. I knew that somebody would surely complain about me in the future. But, I myself thought this would be the right thing to do. There is nothing wrong in saving many people’s lives….The spirit of humanity, philanthropy…neighborly friendship…with this spirit, I ventured to do what I did, confronting this most difficult situation—and because of this reason, I went ahead with redoubled courage.

He died in nearly complete obscurity in Japan. His neighbors were shocked when people from all over, including Israeli diplomatic personnel, showed up at quiet little Mr. Sugihara’s funeral.

I will forever reblog this, I wish more people would know about them!

I liked this before when it had way less information. Thank you, history-sharers.

Tucked away in a corner in L.A.’s Little Tokyo is a life-sized statue of Chiune, seated on a bench and smiling gently as he holds out a visa.

    image

The stone next to him bears a quote from the Talmud; “He who saves one life, saves the entire world.”

I had no idea it existed until a few weeks ago, but it’s since become one of my favorite pieces of public art.
